A Legacy of Excellence

Kawempe Muslim Secondary School (KMSS) stands as a beacon of academic excellence and Islamic values in Uganda. Established in 1984 by the Ugandan government, the school was conceived as a “special gift” to Kawempe Muslim Primary School in recognition of its outstanding performance over the years. Located on Kyadondo Hill, Kawempe Division, Kampala, KMSS has grown into one of Uganda’s most respected institutions, blending rigorous academics with moral and spiritual development.

Our History

Founding and Early Years

The school’s origins trace back to a 1983 government policy mandating the establishment of a secondary school in every constituency. At the time, Kampala had four constituencies, but the Muslim community initially missed out on securing a secondary school. After advocacy efforts, the Kampala City Council Education Department granted approval, and KMSS was officially registered on February 25, 1984.

From its inception, KMSS was envisioned as a mixed boarding and day school, offering both Ordinary Level (O-Level) and Advanced Level (A-Level) education under the Uganda National Curriculum (UNEB). Its motto, “Go Higher,” reflects its commitment to continuous improvement in academics, discipline, and character.
